Description

The species is referred in the name of M.P.Edgeworth. Shrub size 2m epiphyte, pendulum character, barked branches at the later stage, branches densely covered with tomentum

Dark, thick green, glabrous, cushioned with thick felt beneath, wrinkled and rough above

Flower

In tuft . 2-3 flowers/Inflorescence, color varies from white to pink, pediceled, lustrous, gives fragrance of conation.

Calyx

deeply, pink to greenish pink tinged ciliated margins.. Stamens 10; extended above corolla, pistil below stamen. Cylindrical long capsule

Habitat and description

Mostly in Sikkim Himalayas, inhabiting cliffs, pines and oak, hanging over cliff, distributed in Sikkim , Bhutan, Burma, China at 6000 to 12000 ft.  Affinity: flower resembles R. maddenii, Inflorescence- Pendulous, Calyx-pendulum.

 

Rhododendron

   Amongst the many floral treaties of Sikkim Himalaya one of the earliest ones may be found over the genus Rhododendron (Gk. rhodo = red, dendrons = tree ).
