Description

Because of the foliar and floral character of the species is refereed ascilliatum. The highest no of verities are found especially in flower color and shape of corolla when grown fully .The species can withstand alkalinity and drought. The shrubs canít attain the height of more than 1.5m.

Attractive green, shiny, elliptic, hairy upper surface, fringed margin.

Flower

terminal inflorescence, color varies from white to pink.

Campanulate of tubular, 5 lobed, hairy with fringed margin, pedicelled.

Calyx  Lobed 5, deeply lobed, fringed margins with long hairs.

Habitat and description

well grown in harsh soil, and bright sun, rocky areas and

                                          woody forests. Distributed in Sikkim, Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal                      from  8000 to 13000 ft.

 

Rhododendron

   Amongst the many floral treaties of Sikkim Himalaya one of the earliest ones may be found over the genus Rhododendron (Gk. rhodo = red, dendrons = tree ).
