Description

Shrubs attaining the height not more than 2m.usally covered with brownish scales all over the shoots

Leaves

Racemose inflorescence, shiny surface, rusty cinnamon layered  scales below, leather like texture, elliptic to ovate. Leaves are 2-3cm long x 1.2-3 cm. broad  (P&L).

Flower

5-12, rotate, 3.75cm.across.deep reddish purple spotted with the dark color on the corolla , externally lepidote. Style bent downwards.

Rhododendron

   Amongst the many floral treaties of Sikkim Himalaya one of the earliest ones may be found over the genus Rhododendron (Gk. rhodo = red, dendrons = tree ).
