Description

An assuming straggly shrub usually epiphytic on rocks and trees of Quercus, Michelia, etc.growing amidst ferns, orchids, mosses and Agapitos Visible only during its flowering season.

bullish leaves with compressed veins, dark green coloured, elliptical obviate. Thick, membranous, plane margin, scalar.

Flower

Trumpet like, scented, magnificent, inflorescence terminal, umbrella head.

Corolla

deep lobed 5, spreading, persistent.

Calyx

persistent, 5 lobed, green, fulvous

Stamena  10, longer than corolla.
Capsule Large, pale, yellow seed.

large shrub 6900ft.  - small, shrub (Tibet, Bhutan, Assam 5000to 9000 ft.)

 

Rhododendron

   Amongst the many floral treaties of Sikkim Himalaya one of the earliest ones may be found over the genus Rhododendron (Gk. rhodo = red, dendrons = tree ).
