Species                                    : Frageria vesica Linn.

Local Name                              : Bhui Aiselo (Nep).

Synonym                                 :

Family                                      : Rosaceae.

Habitat                                   : An erect perennial herb. Thrives well in cold places and open grassy banks

                                              atmargins of cool broad- leaved, blue pine forest.

Distribution                            : Distributed to alpine, temperate region of the Himalayas from 5000- 10,000 ft.

Sikkim                                     : Sombariya, Zuluk, Gangtok, Kyongnosla, Chakkal, Damthang.

Out side                                  : Kashmir, Nepal, Bhutan (Chhuka district, Thimpu district, Punakha and Tongsa district).

 

Morphological information

Prostate herb, leaflets elliptic or obovate, obtuse 2- 5 x 1- 3 cm, sharply serrate, appressed silky- white pubescent beneath. Scape 3- 10 cm, 1- 3 flowered, calyx cup 0.3- 0.5 cm diameter. Lobes entire, triangular, 0.4- 0.6 cm, epicalyx lobes, elliptic, acuminate, 0.3- 0.4 cm. Petals white, obovate, 0.6- 1.0 cm. Achenes 0. 1- 0. 2 cm on globose succulent receptacle, 1. 0-  1. 5 cm diameters.

Flowering                       : April-June .

Fruiting                          : June-August.

History                          :

Parts                             : Fruit, root, leaves.

Status                          : Low risk.

Phytochemistry           : Procyanidins B1, B2 and B5, (+) catechin and (-) epicatechin isolated from roots and identified by H PLC (Phytochemistry 1986,

                                      26, 261; Chem. Pharm. Bull. 1988, 36,829).

 

Medicinal                   : The fruit is said to be astringent and diuretic. The leaves are mildly astringent and diuretic and an infusion of the leaves is

                                    given in diarrhoea and affection of urinary organs.
