Habitat                                               : Perennial shrub of 2 m, found on the foothills up to 1800 m.

Distribution                                        :

Sikkim                                                 : Pakyong, Dzongu, Gangtok, Meli-Jorethang, Chakung, Sangadorjee, Namchi, Mangan, Tong. All over in Sikkim up

                                                            to 1800 m.

Outside                                               : West Bengal, Meghalaya, Bhutan, Nepal.

General                                               : Eastern Himalaya (Eastern Nepal-Sikkim), Bhutan, Meghalaya, Myanmar, South East China.

Morphological information

Elegant perennial to 2 m. Stem solid reed like culms, forming large culms. Leaves large, acicular, 22-40x5-8 cm, margins sharp, glabrous. Panicles 30-60 cm long, spikelets terminal, all similar, minute stalked, in large branched much divided clusters, lower florets sterile, upper terminal.

Parts                                        : Root.

Status                                      : Cultivated.

 Medicinal

Roots are used dried or fresh. A paste is made out of it and applied to check boils. The root extract is indicated for use as a mouthwash.
