Habitat                                   : A spinous herb, 60-120 cm high, thrives well in open slops, grazing

                                                ground,normally cold places.

Distribution     : Distributed in subalpine and alpine region.

Sikkim            : Nathang, Kupup, Jalepla, Nathula, Memenchu, Padamchen, Kyoungnosla, Lachen Thongu, sokha- Dzongn and above, Yumey- Samdong,

                       Lhonak valley, Kishong.

Outside          : Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Nepal (3000- 4300 m), Bhutan.

Morphological information

Leaves opposite or in whorls of three long, narrow, prickly with spiny teeth. Flowers variegated rose pink and white in distant whorls in leaf axils forming a long interrupted spike.

Medicinal                   : The plants yield an essential oil used as incense and in the preparation of drug, agarbatties etc. Sometime it is also used in

                                   swelling and gastritis.

 

Traditional            : The root paste prepared by the addition of Aconiutum spicatum, Stellera chamaejasme Linn and Telminalia Billefica is

                               applied on the joint pain. (C.S.)
